Marcus CineLatino Milwaukee Film Festival, April 11-15, Offers More Than Films

Community Invited to Participate in Special Activities, Celebrate Hispanic Culture and Recognize the First Ever Winner of the Latino Spirit Award

Milwaukee, March 29, 2018…Marcus Theatres® is excited to announce several special activities offered at the CineLatino Milwaukee Film Festival presented by Aurora Health Care. CineLatino kicks off on Wednesday, April 11, with a Festival Premiere Night fundraiser at BistroPlex in Greendale and continues Thursday, April 12, through Sunday, April 15, at South Shore Cinema in Oak Creek.

“What sets CineLatino apart from traditional film festivals is the variety of cultural activities the whole family will enjoy,” said Rolando Rodriguez, chairman, president and CEO of Marcus Theatres. “From the Selena Celebration to the Family Fiesta, these activities are designed to bring the community together to celebrate the rich Hispanic culture while complementing our diverse line-up of 12 films.”

Following is a round-up of the special activities offered at CineLatino:

CineLatino Film Festival – April 12-15 at South Shore Cinema

  • April 13 – 6-8 p.m.: Selena Celebration presented by Sol: Join Marcus Theatres in celebrating the late singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez’s birthday. Attendees must purchase a ticket to the 8 p.m. showing of Selena to take part in all activities in the SuperScreen DLX® auditorium:

    • 6-7:15 p.m. in Take Five Lounge: Enjoy food and drink specials including Sol, a brand of MillerCoors, plus a Selena-themed photo booth.

    • 7:15-7:45 p.m. in SuperScreen DLX: Watch or participate in the Selena Look-Alike Contest organized by La Gran D 104.7 Radio. To enter the contest, visit the La Gran D 104.7 Facebook page and click on the Event tab: “La Doble de Selena.” Five contestants in three age categories will be chosen to compete in front of a panel of community judges.     • 7:45-8 p.m. in SuperScreen DLX: Learn a foundational move of salsa dancing from Danceworks, then enjoy a performance by the group thanks to support from the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF)!

    • 8 p.m. in SuperScreen DLX: Showing of “Selena.”

  • April 14 – 1-4 p.m.: Cerveceros Tailgate presented by the Milwaukee Brewers: The Milwaukee Brewers and Marcus Theatres have teamed up for a Cerveceros Tailgate! Rain or shine, get a taste of tailgating at Miller Park with tailgate games, spin-the-wheel and photo opportunities with Chorizo®, Bernie Brewer and friends. Participants can catch the following family-friendly, PG-rated films before or after the tailgate:

    • “Coco” – English with Spanish subtitles: 12:10 p.m., 12:40 p.m., 3:15 p.m.; Spanish dubbed: 9:40 a.m.

    • “Condorito: La Pelicula” (“Condorito: The Movie”) – Spanish with English subtitles: 1 p.m., 2:45 p.m., 5 p.m.

    • “Ferdinand” – English with Spanish subtitles: 9:30 a.m., 3:55 p.m., 5:05 p.m.; Spanish dubbed: Noon, 2:30 p.m.

    • “Selena” – 5:45 p.m.

  • April 15 – 10 a.m.-1 p.m.: Family Fiesta presented by Aquafina®: Bring the family to Marcus Theatres for a Family Fiesta! Crafts included make-your-own Papel Picados (Mexican folk art), decorative skull cut-outs inspired by “Dia de los Muertos” (Latin American holiday) and coloring stations. Participants will also enjoy a complimentary snack, face painting and the CineLatino photo booth. They can see the following family-friendly, PG-rated films before or after the party:

    • “Coco” – English with Spanish subtitles: 12:10 p.m., 12:30 p.m..; Spanish dubbed: 9:40 a.m.

    • “Condorito: La Pelicula” (“Condorito: The Movie”) – Spanish with English subtitles: 9:35 a.m.                                                                     

    • “Ferdinand” – Spanish dubbed: 9:30 a.m., Noon

    • “Tesoros” (“Treasures”) – Spanish with English subtitles: 11:50 a.m., 2:15 p.m.

More Notable CineLatino Activities and Offerings

  • CineLatino Premiere Night – On April 11 at BistroPlex in Greendale, the community can enjoy the premiere of the new Eugenio Derbez comedy “Overboard” more than three weeks before the general public. The event features fundraising activities and food and beverages, and all proceeds benefit the Aurora Cancer Care – Spanish Clinic. Tickets are on sale now at

  • Inaugural “Latino Spirit Award” – During Premiere Night, Alverno College is being recognized for becoming Wisconsin’s first Hispanic Serving Institution; Sister Andrea Lee, president of Alverno College, will accept the award for her leadership in championing the national designation.

  • Nationally-acclaimed Artist Designs Festival Poster – Designed by Mauricio Ramirez, the poster features a contemporary, street-inspired depiction of Frida Kahlo. The posters are sponsored by Northwestern Mutual and are on sale now at the South Shore Cinema Box Office or for $10.
